Richmond starting pitcher Craig Westcott held Akron in check, tossing six shutout innings, but his bullpen was not able to do the same as the Aeros scored four runs in the seventh and five in the eighth in Saturday’s road win.
Kyle Bellows broke open the shutout in the seventh with an RBI single that brought in Quincy Latimore.
Starter Will Roberts earned the win for the Aeros (43-45), evening his record at 6-6.
Roberts threw 6⅔ shutout innings, allowing only three hits while walking one and striking out three.
Leadoff hitter Jose Ramirez led the Aeros at the plate, reaching base four times on two singles, a double and a walk. He drove in two runs and scored twice.
Tyler Holt, Carlos Moncrief and Justin Toole each singled twice for Akron and drove in a run.
Toole added two runs.
Reliever Josh Osich took the loss for Richmond (41-46), giving up four earned runs in his ⅔ innings of work.
