Akron pitcher Steven Wright’s knuckleball frustrated Baysox hitters all game as the Aeros won the rubber match of a three-game series 5-0 Sunday afternoon in Bowie.
Wright’s record is 3-1 with a minuscule 1.13 ERA. He held the Baysox to five hits, with two walks and six strikeouts. He struck out the side in the ninth. His effort was boosted by three double plays.
Center fielder and leadoff hitter Tim Fedroff (.311) got the Aeros off to a fast start in the first inning when he doubled and then scored as Jared Goedert hit into a double play for a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Goe-dert scored on Adam Abraham’s double to left field. Abraham scored on Thomas Neal’s hit into a ground-ball force-out.
Goedert scored again on Neal’s groundout in the eighth and Robert Perez scored the final run in the ninth on Juan Diaz’s groundout.
Fedroff, Goedert, Ryan Rohlinger and Roberto Perez all had two hits for the Aeros.
The Aeros are at Canal Park at 7:50 tonight for the first of a three-game series with Erie.
Former Aeros pitcher Kelvin De La Cruz (1-3, 5.32) faces T. J. House (0-0, 4.50) for the Aeros.
James Avery (4-1, 1.72) pitches for the SeaWolves against Giovanni Soto (3-0, 3.33) for the Aeros at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday and Ramon Garcia (0-2, 10.64) of the SeaWolves faces the Aeros’ Eric Berger (0-3, 4.37) at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday.
