Curve 8, Aeros 3
Altoona scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to handing Akron an 8-3 defeat on Sunday.
The host Curve homered twice in the inning off of Akron starter Toru Murata and added six other hits to produce their eight runs. Murata settled down after the first inning, though, going five innings and allowing just six more hits and no runs.
Akron did not have a hit until the top of the fourth inning, when Tyler Naquin reached base on an infield hit.
The Aeros’ offense got rolling in the sixth inning when Ronny Rodriguez led off the inning with a single to left field. Naquin added his second hit of the night and then Tyler Holt doubled home Rodriguez, but Naquin was thrown out advancing to third. Holt later scored on a Adam Abraham single.
Rodriguez drove home Akron’s third run in the seventh when he singled home Chris Wallace.
Rodriguez, Naquin, Wallace and Matt Lawson all had multiple hits for the Aeros, but the offense was unable to overcome the early deficit.
Akron, which is in fifth place of the West Division of the Eastern League (AA) with a record of 67-73, closes out its season this afternoon when it takes on Altoona in the season finale. The game is scheduled to start at noon.
