Indians announce player development changes for 2013 season; Tremie, Rodriguez promoted
The Indians announced numerous coaching changes for the 2013 season within their minor league system on Thursday.
Manager Chris Tremie is moving from Double-A Akron to Triple-A Columbus after leading the Aeros to the 2012 Eastern League title and an 82-59 record. Tremie is entering his 8th season in the Indians organization and spent the last two in Akron. Pitching coach Tony Arnold will follow him to Columbus.
Edwin Rodriguez is moving from Single-A Carolina to become the new manager of the Aeros. Rodriguez, 52, spent last season in Carolina after managing the Florida Marlins for parts of the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Rodriguez started his post-playing career as a scout for the Twins before jumping around the minor leagues and is entering his 34th season in baseball. Jim Rickon and Greg Hibbard will come to Akron as the hitting and pitching coaches, respectively.
Adam Everett, entering his second season off the field, will become the Infield Coordinator. Travis Fryman is being moved to a Special Assistant role.
Manager David Wallace, 33, is moving from Lake County to Carolina. Scooter Tucker will become the manager of Lake County after spending 2012 as the hitting coach in Carolina. Tucker will be joined by Steve Karsay, who will serve as pitching coach.
