No Colts vs. Patriots on area TV

If you're one of those football fans who were willing to pass on the Seattle Seahawks-Browns game at 4:15 p.m. Sunday for the weekend's ''big game,'' you can forget it.

The New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts will kick off at about the same time on CBS, but Northeast Ohio fans will not get to see it because of NFL broadcast rules, a CBS spokesman said.

NFL blackout rules say that when a home team has its Sunday game televised in its home market, no other NFL game can appear in the same time slot.

In Cleveland, such a scenario is normally moot, because even when the Browns played poorly, they clobbered the competition on opposing channels.

Still, the Patriots-Colts game is an intriguing one because both teams are undefeated and expected to be a contender for the Super Bowl, said Lisa McManus, program director at CBS affiliate WOIO (Channel 19).

''I know how interesting the Colts-Patriots game is to some,'' she said

In what is becoming a familiar refrain in the area, football fans will have to go to a sports bar or find a friend who has DirecTV and access to the NFL Sunday Ticket on that satellite service.

There is an upside to all of this: Fox (WJW Channel 8), the network that will carry the Browns this week, airs all of its games in high definition.
