McNair's sore shoulder keeps him from game; Baltimore's corners hurt

BEREA: Kyle Boller was officially installed as the starting quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens for the game Sunday against the Browns. Struggling starter Steve McNair was declared out with a partially dislocated left shoulder.
There has been some speculation that McNair, 34, has played his last game for the Ravens. They have gone 2-4 in his six starts, and he has thrown just two touchdown passes and lost 11 turnovers (seven fumbles, four interceptions).
''With Steve, it looks to be a two- or three-week prognosis,'' Ravens coach Brian Billick said on a conference call Wednesday.
Boller has played in seven games and started three, with the Ravens going 2-1. His passer rating of 74.6 is higher than McNair's (73.9).
Also out for the Ravens are cornerback Samari Rolle (illness) and receiver Demetrius Williams (ankle).
The Ravens could be without starting corners for the second consecutive week, and without a Browns killer, tight end Todd Heap (thigh). Heap did not practice, and cornerback Chris McAlister (knee) was limited.
Browns receiver Braylon Edwards would love playing the Ravens without Rolle and McAlister.
''You're talking about two Pro Bowl corners,'' Edwards said. ''Chris McAlister is strong, physical, he can run. He still has ability that a lot of guys don't have. Not having him out there, as well as Samari Rolle, who is a Pro Bowl corner at one time and a savvy veteran, that's going to hurt.''
Browns injuries
Sitting out with injuries were three linebackers Willie Mc-Ginest (hamstring), Antwan Peek (knee) and D'Qwell Jackson (ankle). Cornerback Leigh Bodden (back) was limited.
Center signed
The Browns picked up center Greg Eslinger off the Denver Broncos' practice squad to fill the roster spot of guard Seth McKinney, set to undergo shoulder surgery. Eslinger won the Outland and Rimington trophies at the University of Minnesota, where he started all 50 career games.
''We think he's a smart, quick, tenacious kind of guy,'' coach Romeo Crennel said. Asked whether Eslinger can play guard, Crennel said, ''He's primarily a center. Smart guys generally can overlap some.''
Listed as 6-foot-3 and saying he weighs 280 pounds, Eslinger was drafted in the sixth round in 2006. He spent last season on injured reserve with a right shoulder injury.
''It's a good surprise to be here,'' Eslinger said. ''It's a great organization. I'll do whatever I can to help it out.''
Edwards apologizes
Edwards had his apology prepared for declining to talk after the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He and receiver Joe Jurevicius violated the league's interview policy.
''I was feeling very emotional and didn't want to say anything in the heat of the moment that would come back to bite myself or this team in the butt,'' Edwards said. ''I've been pretty good with the media this year, so I figured I had a get-out-of-jail-free card. I chose to use it, and I apologize.''
