Pair plays friendly game at Sand Ridge Golf Club. Quarterback shoots 78

BEREA: Cowboys' quarterback Tony Romo shot 84 at Torrey Pines, but he has nothing on the Browns' Derek Anderson when it comes to golf.
Anderson had the guts to take on 2003 British Open winner Ben Curtis last week at Sand Ridge Golf Club in Chardon.
Curtis carded a 66 on the 7,127-yard, par-72 Tom Fazio layout, which is ranked 60th on Golf Digest's list of America's 100 greatest courses for 2007-08. Meanwhile, the 6-foot-6 quarterback shot 78 and said that included a trio of 3-putt bogeys.
Anderson said he came away with even more respect for Curtis, the Stow resident and former Kent State All-American who has won three times on the PGA Tour.
''His long irons are so good,'' Anderson said at the Browns' minicamp that concluded Thursday. ''On a par-5, he hit a 4-iron to 2 feet, and I'm sitting there struggling. Obviously, that's what they do, but it was impressive to watch him hit solid shot after solid shot. I duff one and I'm scrambling to make par and he's always on the green putting for birdie.''
Anderson said the pair hit it off when Curtis visited Browns training camp in August 2006 and the two kept in touch. They had dinner together this winter during Super Bowl week, when Curtis was playing in the FBR Open in Scottsdale, Ariz.
So it was no wonder that when Curtis was asked at the Memorial Tournament in Brady Quinn's hometown of Dublin, Ohio, whether he was a Quinn or an Anderson guy, he said Anderson. Curtis, a longtime Browns fan who has a contract with Reebok to wear NFL team gear, grew up in Ostrander, Ohio.
''He was a pro bowler last year,'' Curtis said of Anderson. ''He had a great year; he had maybe one or two suspect games. You can't fault the guy. He played great.''
Curtis enjoys the fact that his favorite team is considered a Super Bowl contender.''They've made big strides in the last two or three years,'' he said. ''Hopefully, they'll get in the playoffs.''
