Steelers quarterback has media guessing about whether he's ready to play

BEREA: Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger missed practice Wednesday with a sore right shoulder and was cagey about whether he'll be ready for the showdown Sunday against the Browns.
''I'm taking it one day at a time,'' he said. ''Today's going to be a good mental day, watching and learning about the blitzes and the new plays being put in, a very above-the-shoulders productive day.''
When Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was asked if he had any doubt whether Roethlisberger would play, Tomlin quickly replied, ''None.''
Roethlisberger, a Findlay native and Miami University product, has been sacked 93 times the past two seasons (99 including playoffs) and went down twice more in the 38-17 victory Sunday over the Houston Texans. But he completed 13-of-14 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns, for a passer rating of 147.0.
Critics thought the Steelers' offensive line was suspect this season, which Roethlisberger said played right into their hands.
''I know they loved, I loved, we all loved that people were talking bad about them because that just fuels their fire and makes them work that much harder,'' he said on a conference call with Cleveland media. ''I was hoping people would say that because I knew how talented, athletic and determined they were.''
Strange tactics?
After the game Sunday, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones claimed Browns safety Nick Sorensen grabbed him below the belt at the bottom of a pile after Jones muffed a punt and recovered it in the third quarter.
''If someone did, I don't know. For him to call me out like that, it's a little ridiculous,'' Sorensen said. ''But I just consider the source. I definitely did not do it. That's not my style.
''How's he going to turn around and pick me? There were like six or seven of us, plus some of their guys, too. He was yelling that to other people during the game and I didn't know why.''
Safety Mike Adams thought it was an ''acting job'' by Jones.
''He did lose the ball,'' Adams said. ''And I think that was just a cop-out. I don't think a man grabs another man.''
Asked if such things occur, Adams said: ''No. No. Please no. If it does, I do not want to be at the bottom of a pile. And I promise you guys you will never see me at the bottom.''
Injury report
Also missing practice for the Steelers were tackle Marvel Smith (groin), cornerback Deshea Townsend (foot) and receiver Hines Ward (coaches' decision, not football related). Limited for the Browns were receiver/returner Joshua Cribbs (ankle), linebacker Kris Griffin (elbow), guards Rex Hadnot (knee) and Ryan Tucker (hip) and safety Brodney Pool (concussion).
