Receiver likely to be out for another week, says he hopes to 'get out there'

BEREA: It sounds likely that a strained quadriceps will keep Browns receiver Donte' Stallworth out for at least a third consecutive week.
Hurt in pregame warm-ups before the Sept. 7 opener, Stallworth missed practice again Wednesday and did not sound optimistic about playing Sunday as the Browns (0-2) visit the Baltimore Ravens (1-0).
''I'm OK for now,'' Stallworth said. ''I'm hoping I can get out there. I don't want to be out there and let my pride get in the way of me thinking I can go out there and can't, and in reality hurt the team more than I would like to.
''It's a matter of me being able to contribute as opposed to being out there and injuring myself again or hurting the team at all.''
The Browns opened the season without their No. 2 receiver Stallworth and No. 3 Joe Jurevicius (four surgeries on his right knee).
Also sitting out Wednesday were receiver/returner Joshua Cribbs (shoulder), linebacker Kris Griffin (calf), linebacker Willie McGinest (hamstring), guard Eric Steinbach (shoulder) and defensive back Mike Adams (personal reasons). Limited were receiver Braylon Edwards (shoulder), running back Jamal Lewis (ankle) and defensive lineman Shaun Smith (hand).
Smith was wearing a cast on his left hand and said he had a fracture. He's the likely replacement for defensive end Robaire Smith, who was placed on injured reserve with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
''I don't catch the ball, do I?'' Shaun Smith said. ''I don't see it as a problem. I played the whole game with it like that. The second play or whenever it was I went in, I hurt it. I put a soft cast on it at halftime and played. I know we need to be able to use our hands, but I'll be able to use my hands.''
Right guard Ryan Tucker fully participated in practice for the first time since May 14, when he limped off during offseason training activities with a fractured hip that required surgery.
Brownies
To help Edwards concentrate after six drops in two games, the Browns are using orange and white balls in individual drills with numbers 1 through 7 on them. ''It's just focus and discipline; look the ball in,'' receiver Steve Sanders said. ''You call out the number as loud as you can as soon as you see it.'' . . . Quarterback Derek Anderson said the Browns' problems with the helmet radio to communicate with offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski apparently were fixed. ''Sometimes when it gets loud, you can't really hear going through his speaker what he's saying,'' Anderson said. ''I don't think we had any mess-ups like we did before where it flat-out didn't work.''
