Wright, McDonald and Pool credited in win over Giants

BEREA: Eric Wright's bravado was back even before his 94-yard interception return for a touchdown clinched the Browns' 35-14 victory over the New York Giants Monday night.
The second-year cornerback said he knows Deion Sanders, a former eight-time Pro Bowler who was considered one of the league's greats at that position. In a radio appearance Tuesday on WKNR, Wright said he texted Sanders on Monday and told him ''to get the balloons ready for his coming-out party.''
When he awoke, Wright said Sanders had texted back congratulating him.
Even quarterback Derek Anderson cited the contribution of the young secondary as the Browns intercepted three of Giants quarterback Eli Manning's passes. Free safety Brodney Pool and second-year cornerback Brandon McDonald joined Wright. McDonald's interception came on the first play of the third quarter after the Giants cut the deficit to 17-14 with a touchdown with 12 seconds left in the second quarter.
''The defense bent but didn't break. Our corners made some huge plays, batting balls down, picking balls off,'' Anderson said.
Inside linebacker Andra Davis said, ''We kept putting pressure on him and when the opportunity was there, those guys made plays. Those were crucial turnovers, especially E-Wright, his pick sealed the game for us.''
With linebacker Willie McGinest applying pressure, Wright stepped in front of a ball intended for Amani Toomer and raced down the sideline, barely staying inbounds to avoid a diving Manning with 8:07 to play. It was Wright's first career touchdown and the fourth-longest interception return in franchise history.
The Browns have eight interceptions in the past three games and nine this season.
About that flip
Pro Bowl receiver Braylon Edwards showed how he felt about the Browns' first Monday night appearance in five years by doing a cartwheel and a back flip during introductions.
''The back flip was just giving it something extra. You come out, everybody's excited, you're trying to get the fans excited,'' Edwards said. ''You're trying to give them a reason to believe we have a chance against these guys outside of them saying, 'The Browns are going to do it tonight.'
''I haven't done one since my Michigan days, so I know RAC was probably having a heart attack. It was fun. I delivered. I think the judges gave me a 9.7.''
Coach Romeo Crennel, who has three daughters, said he knows a little bit about gymnastics and floor exercise.
Asked his reaction to Edwards' display, Crennel said, ''I didn't even know he had done it. Let me take a look at it and see if I can give some style points. I don't know if he did a round-off after the cartwheel or not.''
Injury update
Pro Bowl tight end Kellen Winslow, inactive Monday with an undisclosed illness, is resting at home. Winslow spent three nights in the Cleveland Clinic last week. ''I am hoping to have him for the Redskins,'' Crennel said.
Crennel said defensive end Shaun Smith ''might not make it'' for Sunday's game in Washington. Smith underwent hand surgery during the Oct. 5 bye week and Crennel said the doctor ''doesn't think he's ready yet.''
But Crennel said strong safety Sean Jones might return after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Sept. 11.
Brownies . . .
A short week might seem daunting, but NFL teams who have won on Monday night and go on the road the next week are 4-0 this season. . . . A 90-minute version of the Browns-Giants game will be shown on the NFL Network at 8 p.m. Wednesday. . . . The New York Daily News reports that Giants quarterback Eli Manning suffered a chest injury against the Browns and was scheduled for a battery of tests Tuesday. The paper said he was hurt when he was driven into the ground by a Browns defender in the third quarter. . . . The Browns did not punt for the first time since Nov. 5, 1995, against the Houston Oilers. . . . Tight end Darnell Dinkins and Edwards celebrated touchdowns with dunks over the crossbar. ''We were having a personal slam-dunk contest, I guess,'' Dinkins said.

The way this game went, I wouldn't have been surprised if RAC did a cartwheel & backflip! Well, maybe just rolled around on the ground a bit. Great job by Nick Sorensen, didn't notice him making any big mistakes, DBs really coming on and Ryan Tucker is the man! Go BROWNS!!
impressive.
