Crennel says quarterback isn't on a short leash even though he was removed from game Sunday

BEREA: Browns quarterback Brady Quinn's fractured index finger also involves a tendon and affects how he can spin the ball, coach Romeo Crennel said Monday.
But that was only part of the reason Crennel benched Quinn and went to Derek Anderson at the end of the third quarter in a 16-6 loss to the visiting Houston Texans on Sunday. Quinn will be the starter this weekend against the visiting Indianapolis Colts, Crennel said Monday.
''That small fracture is where the tendon is attached,'' Crennel said. ''It's right at the tip and it makes it tough for him to spin it the way he wants to spin it.''
ESPN reported that Quinn will see noted orthopedist James Andrews today for a second opinion on the finger injury.
Quinn hurt the finger in a Nov. 17 victory over the Buffalo Bills. He was removed after throwing interceptions on back-to-back series against the Texans, his first turnovers in three games as a starter. Quinn was not happy afterward, saying, ''I didn't really have any inclination that I was on such a short leash.''
Quinn completed 8-of-18 for 94 yards and a 21.3 rating, and Anderson completed 5-of-14 for 51 yards with one interception for a 17.3 rating.
''Brady is still the starting quarterback,'' Crennel said. ''I told him last night that he had not lost his job. He was disappointed at being taken out. He didn't know whether he was the starter or not because of the frustration.
''He is not on a short leash. If he were on a short leash, I would've told him before the game 'If you throw two interceptions, I'm going to take you out.' But I didn't do that because it was not my intention. Every game in the NFL is a different game. You've got to play the circumstances as they come up. The combination of some mis-reads, my knowledge of the finger situation during the week and the way things were going in the game, I thought that I needed to make the change.''
In Quinn's three games, the Browns are 1-2 and he's completed 45-of-89 for 518 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions and a 66.6 rating.
''We like the things he has shown us since he's taken over the starting job,'' Crennel said. ''His composure, his leadership, he doesn't get rattled. That's why he's going to continue to be the starter and see if we can help him more. If we can do that, we might be able to win a game.''
Injury update
Fullback Charles Ali (ribs) and tight end Darnell Dinkins (ankle) were undergoing MRIs. An X-ray on center Hank Fraley's hand was negative.

ouch
He shouldn't have played at all if he was hurt.
Ultimatelym, Crennel went back to DA because that's his buddy. He couldn't even say Quinn's name for half the season (referring to Quinn as "the other guy").
Revised 11/20 post:
1. Start Jerome Harrison at RB
2. Start Joshua Cribbs at WR
3. Cut Braylon "Baby" Edwards (Wants out of Clev. (again)/intentional drops)
4. Cut Jamal "One-Way Road-Grader" Lewis (free-up salary )
5. Implement West Coast Offense
6. Hire Jake's Crane to remove Large Sh*t Bag from Browns Stadium; Frog march Phil Savage from Browns Staduim during Half-Time festivities
7. RANDY LERNER: Fly to wherever Cowher is, hand him a blank check giving him full reign, then fly back to London and stay there until (see #9)
8. Rent Barge on Lake Erie to float out Cowher's "weed-outs" to an undisclosed destination for burial at sea.
9. Make Super-Bowl preparations by 2011.
P.S. There's another Large Sh*t Bag operating at Notre Dame posing as a Head Coach with identical ties as the Browns' Large Sh*t Bag. Rule #1: All Belichick disciples are not automatically qualified to be Head Coaches on any level.
Marla Ridenour,
You should've stayed up later. You would probably know that Quinn is out for the rest of the season.
