Quarterback's time with Browns might be over. Dorsey will play 11-1 Titans

BEREA: As Derek Anderson limped out of the locker room Sunday, disdaining crutches despite the pain in his knee, a friend wished him luck and he answered, ''I'll see you, probably in another lifetime.''
Anderson thought he'd played his last game for the Browns, perhaps for his career. He learned Monday that's the case for the rest of this season.
An MRI revealed Anderson suffered a torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee in Sunday's 10-6 loss to Indianapolis. But surgery will not be required.
The Browns said he will wear a brace and is expected to recover in four to six weeks, which means he's headed to the injured reserve list.
Ken Dorsey, who hasn't completed a pass in the NFL since 2005, will take over as Cleveland (4-8) visits Tennessee (11-1) Sunday. Dorsey went 2-8 for San Francisco in 2004-05.
Dorsey will be without one of his go-to guys from the University of Miami, where Dorsey was 38-2 and led the Hurricanes to the 2001 national championship. An MRI showed tight end Kellen Winslow suffered a high left ankle sprain against the Colts and will miss the Titans game. He'll wear a boot for up to a week.
Now coach Romeo Crennel turns to his third starting quarterback in three weeks. Signed to a three-year, $24 million contract on Feb. 29, Anderson now carries a 13-14 record for Cleveland
over three seasons. This year, he completed 50.2 percent of his passes for 1,165 yards and nine touchdowns with eight interceptions and a 66.5 rating. He was sacked 14 times, his same total for 16 games a year ago.
A Pro Bowler who led the Browns to a 10-5 record in 2007 and threw 29 touchdowns, Anderson was benched after going 3-5 in 2008. But Brady Quinn fractured his right index finger Nov. 17 at Buffalo and further injured it by playing the following week against Houston. Quinn is on injured reserve and still debating whether to have surgery.
''Once Derek came back in, we were all confident because we know Derek can play, and it's frustrating now that we have to change again,'' left guard Eric Steinbach said Monday night at a Browns charity event. ''Derek is a tough guy and he would battle if he could.''
Browns radio analyst Doug Dieken said Monday on WKYC's The Point After that Anderson dislocated his finger on a handoff to running back Jamal Lewis against the Colts, but merely called timeout and had it popped back in place.
Crennel said the Browns would also look for a veteran backup quarterback who ''has some background in the system.'' Serving as No. 2 against the Titans will be receiver and special teams ace Joshua Cribbs, the former Kent State quarterback. Richard Bartel, a Tarleton State product signed to the practice squad Wednesday, might be called up if a veteran is not brought in. He spent 2007 on the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad.
Anderson was hurt with 1:07 remaining against the Colts when right tackle Kevin Shaffer was bull-rushed by defensive end Robert Mathis for a sack and Shaffer's helmet hit Anderson's knee.
As Anderson was helped off the field, some fans cheered. Anderson was never embraced by the city, despite his success last season.
Anderson's teammates were still upset about the cheering a day later.
''You couldn't help but hear it. That's dumb. It's stupid to me,'' linebacker Andra Davis said. ''You got a guy who is out there playing his hardest for this city, and for people to cheer for anybody to get hurt, that's ridiculous.''
Davis has seen the reaction before, when quarterback Tim Couch suffered a concussion in 2002 against Baltimore.
Kicker Phil Dawson said the cheering was ''extremely disappointing.''
''It's disappointing for us players who care about Derek and it's disappointing for the true Browns fans who pull for us,'' Dawson said. ''Whether it's a Brown or opponent, any time you cheer an injury, that's a sign that your priorities are way out of whack.''
Defensive end Shaun Smith was just as upset.
''You should always cheer your team on whether they win or lose,'' Smith said. ''To see somebody hurt, you don't know if it's career-ending, and for people to cheer, that's no class at all.''

You bet! Browns fans have a reputation for being loyal and steadfast. Anyone who cheered Derek's injury has apparently not made it through the evolutionary process.
I hope Derek recovers and plays somewhere else next season for his sake, not for the sake of stupid Browns fans. He hasn't played well at all this season but there are various things that factor into that, but still he deserves way better.
"He deserves way better" ????
Yeah, like $ 24 million dollars worth of way better !!!!
Adios, amigo...........................
I wish Anderson a speedy recovery and best wishes
on locating a job somewhere else. I am should with better training, Anderson will end up playing on a football team that wins the super bowl in the future.
I didn't necessarily cheer for the Anderson injury, but I don't hate on the fans who did this. Their frustrated by a lack of talent, poise, and heart that is severely lacking yet again from this team this year. I don't believe anyone who seemingly cheered his injury were seriously happy to see him hurt, they were just happy that at least they didn't have to be tortured by his presence under the pocket anymore, AND that it would further the firing of Savage and Crennel out of here. Had he not been hurt, I very much doubt that anything would of changed the past week or two. Browns fans are merely trying to herald in the new era as soon as possible, and if that means cheering the exit of a VERY VERY dissapointing player, then so be it.
I hope the "fans" who cheered Derek Anderson's demise are going to enjoy the Ken Dorsey show this Sunday. Be careful about what you wish for . . .
I was a big fan of DA after last year. I knew he wasn't Peyton, but I thought he would give us a chance to be competitive this year. But we all know what the result was this year, and by no means do I put all the blame on him. Changes need to be made and I'm still leary of Quinn. For some reason, he's still not "the guy", you know? Maybe he can win me over next season, but big changes need to be made on the offense and who knows how that will affect Quinn? I think he has the potential to be a decent, not great, QB. Only time will tell. I love the Browns, always have, always will... I agree with Tom, you guys asked for it all season and finally got it, no more DA... but honestly I think you could put Peyton back there and the offense would still struggle. I'm just hoping for no more major injuries for the rest of this lost season.
DA shows no poise nor leadership on the field. At best he will always be a #2 QB. Last year was an anomaly...he was playing for a contract.
You stay classy browns fans...
scum bags... :)
and Cleveland wackos forget that the people he passes to are setting records for dropped passes..
and who calls the plays?
Cleveland has a steady stream of coach wantabee's.
Cower is not a solution.....he did nothing with great Pittsburg teams....
The stadium adds to the "Mistake on the Lake" reputation of Cleveland.
Its just a game, when this year is over the stats go into the record books and it starts all over again in "09".Its entertainment, not great entertainment for Browns fans, but it is still entertainment,a diversion.
If this country continues to move further and further to the left you won't have to worry about the Browns or any other pro sports team, they'll be deemed inappropriate in a collective,we're all equal society, and reduced to amateur status if they exist at all.
How ridiculous? You give D.A. a 3 year contract and 24 million dollars and NOW you are ready to trade the guy. What do you expect to get for him? Nothing. That's what. No GM in their right mind is going to want this guy. He's stuck with us for the next 2 years unless we send him packing. Enjoy the nice bonus Derek. You fooled them good. They never should have signed him to that 3 year deal, not with Brady just waiting to get the chance to play. What was their plan? They had NO PLAN. Hey Randy, just so you know, I was screaming to trade the guy before the season started. You can't have two high stock QBs on the same team. It doesn't work. Plus it confuses team chemistry. You didn't see the Patriots keep Drew Bledsoe when Tom Brady emerged onto the scene. What a joke? This team is as awful off the field as they are on it.
By the way, I hope the players sleep better at night now after criticizing the fans for cheering D.A. as he limped off the field. GUESS WHAT, WHETHER IT IS IN THE RIGHT OR NOT, THEY CAN BOO FOR ANY REASON AT ALL...THEY PAID FOR THAT RIGHT! THEY PAY YOUR STUPID OVERBLOWN SALARIES AND STAND OUT IN THE COLD SO YOU CAN GO OUT THERE AND JUMP OFFSIDES AND DISAPPOINT US YET AGAIN FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME. Hearing SOMETHING is better than NOTHING at all. Just remember that when you are all snug in your big fancy houses. Pathetic cry babies!
DA will be a Pro Bowl QB with someone else in the next couple of seasons - he's that good. He's way better then what he has shown with the Browns this season. Crennel, Chudski, Edwards, BQ, and Winslow have been nothing but distractions to his QB performance all season. I wish him well whereever he ends up playing for a playoff team. God bless and get well soon.
I think Anderson could be a stable #2 for a team, but the problem is we can't afford for him to be on our salary at that contract with that title. Cut him now, and he'll land somewhere. Sucks that the circumstances ended up the way they did, but that's the story for Cleveland, and without a lot of luck, it will probably stay that way.
Get well soon, DA. And keep in mind, the cheering after the injury came from a handful of morons. Don't even sweat it.
We have paid for the right to boo a player when he doesn't perform well...but we never earn the right to cheer a player being injured. I am disgusted to be a fan of sports (not just the Browns) when I hear of "fans" cheering the injury of a player. The sad part is, we cheered when Frye got hurt a few years back, we cheered when Couch got hurt before that. I am ashamed to be a fan at this moment.
Everyone knew last year that BQ was going to be the QB of the future. There was no guarantee that DA was going to equal his performance (which was waning in the second half of the season, anyway). So, logic would suggest that while DA was a hot commodity, he should have been dealt for draft picks to restock our depleted supply; or be allowed to sign with someone else so that we'd be compensated with draft picks. Neither happened. Poor decisions are being made at every level of the organization, and the fans are frustrated. That's why they cheer DA getting injured. It's not right, but anger works that way sometimes.
Put Cribbs in and see what he has.
They should just fire Romeo Crennelephant now so that he doesn't have to suffer the embarrassing loss that the Titans will put on them this weekend........Titans 42, Browns 6. Chris Johnson will probably get 250 all-purpose yards and 2 TDs.
Browns fans need help
The Browns have some good players, the foundation to be competitive but they are not a team. That seems to be an organizational problem.Something needs to be done to make them a cohesive unit, playing with purpose and dedication. The answer?Only the "Shadow" knows!(Oh,as bad as they are they never seem to get creamed and they have beaten some decent teams, plus there are teams out there who have equal or worse records).
I see the biggest problem being inconsistency. Anderson can play very well, but he can also play very poor. Same goes for our Edwards, Winslow, the defense, etc. For a group of professional players to be across the board like that is ridiculous. This is a problem that starts at the top and rolls downhill giving us the product that we see week in and week out.
Some of you are foolish in your posts. You don't support those that cheered the injury but think it was ok. You complain about the money the Browns gave DA this year.
Richard, the Patriots didn't keep Bledsoe around when Brady emerged because they knew Bledsoe sucked and felt they had their QB of the future in Brady. Evidently the Browns weren't convinced Quinn was the future, although they seem to now.
Booing injured players is the sign of a classless (and often drunk) fan who is unhappy. I'm unhappy, and been one of those inebriated fans in the stands. But cheering an injury to a player on your team is WRONG!
i can't believe there are people who think Anderson can play somewhere else? only an organization like the Browns give such a flop like Anderson work...look at Tim Couch. we sent him packing, rightfully so, and he can't make the cut in Green Bay so he quits. Anderson should buy a condo in Dubai, count his money and be happy he can say he got rich off of being a horrible quarterback in the NFL
Once again:
Revised 11/20 post:
1. Start Jerome Harrison at RB
2. Start Joshua Cribbs at WR
3. Cut Braylon "Baby" Edwards (Wants out of Clev. (again)/intentional drops)
4. Cut Jamal "One-Way Road-Grader" Lewis (free-up salary )
5. Implement West Coast Offense
6. Hire Jake's Crane to remove Large Sh*t Bag from Browns Stadium; Frog march Phil Savage from Browns Staduim during Half-Time festivities
7. RANDY LERNER: Fly to wherever Cowher is, hand him a blank check giving him full reign, then fly back to London and stay there until (see #9)
8. Rent Barge on Lake Erie to float out Cowher's "weed-outs" to an undisclosed destination for burial at sea.
9. Make Super-Bowl preparations by 2011.
P.S. There's another Large Sh*t Bag operating at Notre Dame posing as a Head Coach with identical ties as the Browns' Large Sh*t Bag. Rule #1: All Belichick disciples are not automatically qualified to be Head Coaches on any level.
Quit talking about Cribbs as a QB. He wasn't a passing QB at Kent State, he sure as hell can't be one in the NFL. Gradkowski was signed because he's a much better option at QB for Cribbs.
As for Anderson, he'll never sniff a Pro Bowl again, he wouldn't have last year if other players didn't declare the game as meaningless. Remember guys, he couldn't beat out Charlie Frye.
