The Browns signed veteran quarterback Bruce Gradkowski today, putting starter Derek Anderson on the injured reserve list with a torn knee ligament.
Gradkowski, a University of Toledo product, was released Aug. 31 by the St. Louis Rams after a training-camp tryout.
He played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2006 and 2007, starting 11 games. He is 190-of-352 for 1,791 passing yards in his career, including nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His passer rating is 65.0
He probably will be the third quarterback for the game Sunday against the Titans (11-1) in Tennessee. Ken Dorsey will start, and receiver-returner Joshua Cribbs will be his backup.
The Browns also announced that quarterback Brady Quinn will undergo surgery on his fractured right index finger Wednesday in Alabama.
The operation will be performed by Dr. Thomas Hunt. The recovery time is expected to be six to 10 weeks. Quinn, who is already on the injured list and out for the season, was hurt Nov. 17 against the Buffalo Bills, and his finger suffered further damage when he played in the next game against the Houston Texans.
Anderson, also out for the season, tore the medial collateral ligament in his left knee late in the loss Sunday to Indianapolis Colts. He will not need surgery.
Anderson, due a $5 million roster bonus in March, may have played his last game for the Browns. The team was expected to choose between him and Quinn before then and trade the other. That plan might have been compromised by Quinn's injury.

It doesn't make any difference . . . . whatever happens . . . . . . . Lerner and Savage haven't the slightest idea how to proceed.
Lets see, you have two young quarterbacks with potential. In this day, you need two quartebacks to survive. Unless there is a can't miss guy out there for the drafting, why would you leave your self with one. The problem this year hasn't been just quarterbacks, its been team play. Offensive line play, poor wide receiver play. I would rather you trade Edwards for somebody who can catch the ball and go deep. How about a another tunning back to compliment Lewis. Defense is starting to come around, but the secondary still needs some help and Laurenitis or the S.Cal kid would be a good addition.
Just another warm body to get beat on when the front line collapses .Expect more years of frustration while the Browns rebuild once again. For Savage to throw Crennel under the bus like he did without taking any blame for the roster he put together shows his true character.
Tim, it's not really Savage's roster that is hurting the Browns so badly. Smith and Rogers were great acquisitions. And, although Daunte is a bust, we needed another receiver considering the attitude problems with Edwards and Winslow, neither of which are Savage's guys.
And with Anderson playing the way he did this year, does anyone blame the Browns for the Quinn draft? Not that Brady took over the game compellingly this season, but we see that Anderson is clearly not the future.
Savage stays, fires Crennel, hires former co-worker Brian Billick only if he agrees to hire former co-worker Marvin Lewis as his defensive coordinator, after Lewis gets fired in Cinnci of course.
The keys to the 2000 Super Bowl Ravens staff will then be in place. EXPERIENCED COACHES and the man that brought them the talent.
MAKE IT WORK LERNER!
For the love of all that is good and holy, Browns: PICK A GOL-DANG QUARTERBACK ALREADY.
I sure hope he can still sign autographs after the surgery. That was his biggest accomplishment since coming to Cleveland. Hum... a broken finger and no OL. Sounds like Tim Couch all over again.
Craig... took the words right out of my mouth.
