Judge asked to release Stallworth crash video

By Associated Press

MIAMI — A judge in Miami is being asked to publicly release surveillance video of the drunk-driving crash in which Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte' Stallworth struck and killed a pedestrian.

The family of victim Mario Reyes doesn't want the video released to news outlets. Circuit Judge Dennis Murphy set a hearing Tuesday on the issue.

Stallworth is serving a 30-day jail sentence for DUI manslaughter in the March 14 crash. Tests showed Stallworth had a blood-alcohol level of 0.126, well above Florida's legal limit. Police said he had spent the night drinking at a swank Miami Beach nightclub.

The National Football League suspended Stallworth indefinitely.

Stallworth reached an undisclosed financial settlement with the Reyes family.

Stallworth was not at fault; he was framed.

Maybe this tape is evidence that Mr. Stallworth was guilty. Maybe the family doesn't want it released because it would reveal them as money grubbing nitwits that exchanged their father/husbands life for a housing upgrade and a college fund.

Or maybe the family doesn't want the world to see their father/husband being hit by a speeding bentley and the trauma he experienced in the last few seconds of his life. Ya know, once released, the video will never go away, and i'm sure that some insensitive kids in HS will post it on myspace, youtube, etc, so that his kids will have no way of not seeing their fathers death.

That said, it should be released as part of the public record of the case. A player should not be able to buy silence.
