Here's another name to keep in mind as the Browns reshape their future.
Ernie Accorsi has been in touch with Browns owner Randy Lerner in the past week or two. Accorsi has been offering advice and help as Lerner tries to right his organization after a brutally bad first half of the season.
It's very possible and likely that Lerner would ask Accorsi — formerly a general manager of the New York Giants and Browns — to become more involved with the team on a full-time basis.
It's not known if Accorsi would take a full-time job, or if he would act as a consultant. But Accorsi and former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar have a relationship dating to Kosar's playing days.
Kosar has already been brought into the team as a consultant.
Accorsi was GM of the Giants from 1998-2007 and with the Browns from 1985 to 1992. He retired after the 2007 season, but was consulted by Lerner when he hired Eric Mangini as coach and George Kokinis as GM in January.
Kokinis' last day as GM of the Browns was Monday, though it's not clear if he was fired or resigned.

Hey Pat:
Great work! Let's see, in a year, you've worked to get Crennel, Savage, and Kokanis fired. If you keep your fingers crossed, maybe Mangini as well.
Of course, you have no solutions to any of the Browns problems and stressing patience to fans in columns doesn't sell newspapers so let's do the next best thing. Feed into the fan anger and fire everyone. You should be ashamed

Peter,
You are a fool, Pat is not responsible for getting these guys fired. What are you 10 years old? Crennel and Savage were blasted by everybody in the media, and the fans for the terrible Browns teams they put on the field, the rampant staph infections, and the generally poor way in which they ran the team.
Kokinis was a nobody, nothing, a figure head. Mangini's YES-man. He was hired after the head coach, with the head coaches approval. Very bad idea, anybody who follows football knows you don't do that. In effect that made Mangini head coach and GM, because he was in charge of it all (and Kokinis just went along with it).
I'm going to remain optimistic that the combination of Accorsi and Kosar (Ernie and Bernie, sounds like a Seasame Street pairing) can make some good changes. The Browns will still suck the remainder of the season.
The next thing is, will they play Quinn more to see what we got (can he be the guy, or do they need to look elsewhere). His huge bonus for playing time be dammed. I'd love to hear Lerner say something about that, and confirm he doesn't care what it costs, but wants the best talent on the field. Because I feel the decision to sit Quinn had caused the players to stop giving any effort. Look at how bad the team has played, looking worse every week. Like the players just don't care, and are fed up with an organization that is treating them terribly.

I agree with Peter. Pat has been negative from day one and it probably stems with his falling out with the Browns. Remember when the Browns let go of some non-football employees and Pat moaned and complained about it? He's too emotionally-involved to be objective. Same with Grossi. These guys think they are de facto members of the coach/GM selection committee. They are old school media guys who think they are part of the story instead of just reporting on the story. The only good Browns reporters in NEO covering the Browns in some capacity are Pluto and Doerschuk.

Pat may be all those things you say, but he is not responsible for any of those guys (Crennel, Savage, Kokinis) being let go by the Browns. He does not have that much power.
Many of us know and recognize that Lerner is a big part of the problem. But he is not going to fire himself, or just sell the team because the fans want him to. (Fans in Dallas, Washington, Oakland, Cincy and other cities hate their owner too, but the owners are not going to just sell because of that.)
You are right, Dungy (Cowher, and other top names) won't be coming here. They have other places they'd prefer to go, or contiue doing TV or just stay retired.
I also miss Terry Pluto, keep forgetting he is with the Plain Dealer, should start reading him there.
