Who should replace Shurmur?
Nate Ulrich
1. Bruce Arians, Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator
Comment: Showed tremendous leadership as interim coach by guiding the Colts to a 9-3 record and a playoff berth after Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia.
2. Chip Kelly, University of Oregon coach
Comment: Some doubt his high-powered spread offense would work in the NFL, but New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is among those who have sought his advice.
3. Jay Gruden, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator
Comment: Has helped guide the Bengals to consecutive playoff berths in the first two seasons with quarterback Andy Dalton and wide receiver A.J. Green.
Marla Ridenour
1. Nick Saban, Alabama coach
Comment: Browns owner Jimmy Haslam will have a tough sell to lure Kent State grad Saban from Tuscaloosa, but $8 million a year might do it.
2. Bill O’Brien, Penn State coach
Comment: I would pick Oregon’s Chip Kelly, but Browns offensive players don’t fit his scheme. O’Brien did an amazing job under the most trying of circumstances.
3. Bruce Arians, Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator
Comment: Colts needed more than the emotion of coach Chuck Pagano’s leukemia battle to make the playoffs. Arians served under Browns coach Butch Davis from 2001-03.
