Broncos 34, Browns 12
Offense: The Browns fell victim to the Broncos’ formidable pass rush, allowing six sacks, including one that knocked rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden out of the game with an injured right shoulder with 3:54 left in the third quarter. The Browns gained just 233 yards and converted 3-of-12 third downs. Thumbs down.
Defense: The Browns’ depleted secondary was shredded by Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning for 339 passing yards and three touchdowns. Employing their nickel package for virtually the entire game, the Browns also struggled against the run, allowing 118 yards on 32 carries (3.7 average). Thumbs down.
Special teams: The Broncos muffed two punts and recovered both. Browns veteran Josh Cribbs muffed one. The Broncos recovered at Cleveland’s 19-yard line and scored a touchdown two plays later. Thumbs down.
Coaching: The Browns were dismal in all phases. They won the coin toss and put Manning on the field right away by deferring. The Broncos scored touchdowns on each of their first two possessions and never looked back. Thumbs down.
