Cavs mum on plans tonight when James likely becomes team's all-time leading scorer

CLEVELAND: That didn't take long.
LeBron James needs five points tonight against the Toronto Raptors to move past Brad Daugherty to become the Cavs' all-time leading scorer. He moved past Austin Carr, who was in second place, last week.
It took Daugherty 548 games to reach his 10,389 points, averaging 19 points.
James will do it in just 379 games, averaging 27.4 points.
''That's something very special. You look at the likes of Brad Daugherty and Austin Carr being part of this franchise and scoring many, many points and then being the No. 1 guy in franchise history is special,'' James said Thursday.
What's even more impressive is how James has done it. His career, thus far, has included five 50-point games, 19 games of 40-49 points and he has scored 30-39 points 134 times. Since being drafted by the Cavs in 2003, only the Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant has scored more points (10,530) than the alumnus of
St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.
''It's just something that happens. I don't look at scoring titles or being the scoring champion or anything or being on top of the franchise history,'' James said. ''I don't do that. I just play my game and let the accolades come from people.''
A team spokesman said that the Cavaliers have something planned to mark the occasion, but declined to be specific.
''I don't know what they have planned, and I don't know what's going to happen, but we'll see,'' James said.
Gibson update
Guard Daniel Gibson continues to mend and rehabilitate his severely sprained left ankle. Although the team didn't practice Thursday, Gibson performed some drills and worked on his outside shooting with the hopes that he will be back to play next week either against the New Orleans Hornets or Detroit Pistons.
Should it be the Hornets, that would be well within the four to six weeks he was expected to miss when he went down in February.
''I'm shooting for next week with us just having one game that will be a great time for me to come back and then be able to rest as well,'' Gibson said.
Coach Mike Brown is cautiously optimistic when it comes to Gibson.
''A lot of times players say stuff because they feel good and stuff like that, but I wait to hear the clearance from the training staff and then I'll hear clearance from the player,'' Brown said. ''Then once I get that, I'm good to go. I don't want to start hoping until next week because if he doesn't, I don't want to be disappointed.''
Gibson said that he's still working on getting a full range of motion with the ankle, and that there's still a bit of discomfort.
Sealing the deal
The game tonight against the Raptors might look like just another slog on the 82-game schedule, but that's not the case. Should the Cavs win tonight, they take the season series important in playoff seeding. The Cavs are now fourth; the Raptors are fifth.
''For us, we play well at home. We're not going to worry about how we play at home. It's on the road that we have to continue to get better,'' James said. ''As for the tiebreaker, we're going to play well and try to hold down the fourth spot and have homecourt (advantage) throughout the first round.''
Brown looks at the game from a different perspective.
''We don't have enough practices. We got guys banged up, so (Thursday) I couldn't have contact, so we have to use each game to get better literally, as almost practice, too,'' he said. ''But because of the spot we're in we have to try to win every single game, so every single game is important. So, if we go out and beat Toronto and we lose our next 10, the tiebreaker (won't) matter.''
Dribble
Swingman Ira Newble has decided to sign a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, choosing them over the Cavs.
A source said the Cavs offered Newble a spot on the team Wednesday, but the two sides could not agree on certain terms of his return.
The Cavs traded Newble to the Seattle SuperSonics last month, but never gave away his locker. Newble was eligible to rejoin the Cavs on Tuesday.
The Cavs still have one open roster spot that they may fill by early next week.
