1) Washington writers pretty much summed up the way the Cavs are viewed nationally. A Washington Post column on Sunday stated: ''You do have to wonder when and if the Wizards are going to realize they have more weapons, more depth and too much talent to let one great player and a smattering of very marginal role players ruin Washington's postseason for the third year in a row.'' Now THAT is disrespect.
2) Then there's this from a Washington Times columnist, who called for James to be suspended for his elbow to the jaw of Andray Blatche: ''This is James, the schoolyard bully who sometimes exhibits little class. It is as if he cannot let his wondrous talent tell his story. He has to add a strut, a glare and an elbow or three.'' Truth be told, I'd not be surprised if James is fined for that elbow. It was pretty blatant.
3) The Cavs should count their blessings about a couple of things in the fourth quarter Saturday. One is that Antawn Jamison missed three key shots with the Wizards ahead by two. The second is that Gilbert Arenas misses his last four. Those two combine to miss seven shots at key moments in the game? That does not seem likely to happen again.
4) Will someone please stop Anderson Varejao from these spinning, twisting, scoop shots on the drive to the basket? Varejao is not that kind of player, and he's hurting the Cavs with these attempts at creative shot-making. Perhaps it's time to give Joe Smith more of these minutes?
5) The Cavs obviously like the Zydrunas Ilgauskas-Brendan Haywood matchup. Time and again, they went inside to Z. Though he shot a low percentage, Z had a strong game especially late, when his effort to come up with loose balls led to James' two winning baskets. Seeing a guy that tall make perimeter shots, tip loose balls away from the opponent and generally play an overall smart game makes me wonder why anyone wants to get rid of him. This matchup should be exploited until the Wizards show they can stop it.
