LeBron has surgery for benign tumor

By George M. Thomas
Beacon Journal sports writer

Cavs forward LeBron James underwent successful surgery today for a benign tumor near his right jaw, according to a release issued by the team.

The tumor affected the parotid gland, the largest of the salivary glands. James and his family were aware of the condition for several months but decided to wait for the conclusion of the season before performing the five-hour procedure. They did so with the clearance of the treating physician and medical staff.

Doctors expect no further treatment to be needed and that James will make a complete recovery. He is recuperating at the Cleveland Clinic and is expected to be released soon.

James enjoyed arguably his best season in a Cavaliers uniform, winning the league's most valuable player award and led the team to the Eastern Conference Finals before the team lost 4-2 to the Orlando Magic.

These tumors can be painful. Could it be that he's been playing with the tumor in pain?

By now you all have heard that I had surgery on my mouth yesterday to have my foot remove from it for saying on the Dan Patrick show that I was going to stay in Cleveland. In 2010 I am gone I am going to New York end of story.

I wish him recovery, but no story about his refusing to sign a contract extension with the Cavs? I think he knows he's on his way to NYC after next season for the big bucks, fame & glory, and NBA championships with the Knicks.

"letravel james" you win the record for "Most Devoted Hater" only a hater in it's prime would take it to the extremes of making a fake page then impersonating a man so badly making false comments on top of it. And i thought the haters from Akron were bad. sheesh Cleveland. Secondly, how did Lebron by himself choke when he made so many points a game and a winning three, so its more like the team and you should know, oh i forgot, your profession isnt basketball its HATING.

NBA championships with the Knicks. That's funny.

Get well soon Lebron. I hope he stays in Cleveland. Why do so many people believe he will go to the NY Knicks. NY has a terrible team and adding LBJ to their roster will make them an average franchise. He may decide to go and play for another team; but it will be for a team poised to add him and contend for multiple NBA championships. A much more like scenario has him teaming up with D-Wade down in Miami. Those two would be a tandem to be reckoned with. Also nearly as likely would be Cleveland( who can always offer him more money than any other team) clearing cap space and adding another Superstar like Chris Bosch, or Yao Ming( how much would the chinese investors who just bought a stake in the Cavs love seeing LBJ and Yao play together. As long as the Cavs management places a team around LBJ that HE believes he can win a title/titles with he will play here. Go Cavs

STUCKINCRACKRON

Hadn't heard that about Chinese investors buying a stake in the Cavs, didn't see or hear that story anywhere. I guess it wasn't widely reported or I missed it. Here is one article that a quick search turned up.

Haters,
LeBron is not the reason the Cavs lost in the East finals, the poor play of his teammates is. And there is no proof that he'll leave in 2010. Besides the Knicks would be a terrible place for him to go, they'd still barely be a playoff team.

PS Get well LeBron.

@ old man grump - LeBron will get more money if he stays in Cleveland (that's the NBA rules). Fame & glory - he already has it, how would he get more? Championships with the Knicks - now that's funny!!! Have you seen their roster?!

LeBron is a very strong, young man and he will recover fast. God Bless him for hanging in there and finishing this season.(I wonder if that's why he moves his mouthpiece around so much.)
This just proves what a dedicated, hardworking person he is. He is a superstar, a magical player and we are so blessed to have him here in Cleveland. (And I feel extra proud of him, because I am a St.V-M grad.)
FYI: LeBron will go nowhere! He just wants a well deserved championship, it is coming people, just be patient. I am confident that the Cavs will get someone else to compliment LeBron.
There is nothing else LeBron will need......he has all the money/fame&glory he'll ever need or want, he loves the Cavs and this town. All he wants is a championship and then I believe he will stay in Cleveland for a long time.
Go CAVS! Thanks for a great season!

He was choking on something last week but I don't think a doctor can help with that.

Doctors said the tumor was a result of close contact with a certain baseball cap.

It is true that the Cavs can offer him more money than any other team. However I have heard from some of buddies who follow basketball much deeper than I say that his endorsers i.e. Nike, Gatorade etc. have said they would pay more if he were in a larger market. Let's face it, endorsements is where the REAL money is. However, I have only heard this. Does anyone else know this? Or has anyone else heard this? I think it brings about a very curious situation for him if it is.

If Lebron left home he would be hated more then art modell. He wouldnt be able to return home or show his face around town. After he has put Akron and Cleveland on the map and built the legacy he has and Cleveland is his team. You think hes willing to throw it all away even when he will make more money in Cleveland? i think not

Speedy & healthy recovery Lebron. Tell the NBA to fine every Magic player $25,000 for harrassing & saying the things they did while on the bench at the end of the game. Do YOU call that sportmanlike conduct? I sure don't !!!!!
