CLEVELAND: Delonte West is ready to return to the court for the Cavaliers.
The troubled guard has missed the first three games while dealing with issues related to bipolar disorder.
Cavs coach Mike Brown said an indication of whether West would play came earlier today. General Manager Danny Ferry confirmed that's when the decision was ''loosely made.''
''When we walked through our plays upstairs, he walked through the plays of the second unit. Guys kind of got the picture that there was a chance he may play,'' Brown said before tonight's game against the Charlotte Bobcats.
Brown said he expected that West's teammates would be excited to have him return.
''He was a starter for us last year, a good player,'' Brown said. ''So they may be excited.''
West averaged 11.7 points as the starting shooting guard last season, but he proved just as valuable on the defensive end of the court.
Teammate LeBron James said it would be good to get West back and he believes West is ready to play.
''I think he's mentally focused,'' James said. ''He had some good practices before we went on the road trip, so I think it's a good addition to our team.''
Brown said that as long as West is active, he will play. What is less sure is how the team will go forward other than to say that West will continue to be evaluated.
Brown has said on more than one occasion how valuable West, a five-year veteran, is to the team.
''The first two games, if he had played, would the results have been the same or been different? I don't know,'' he said. ''I know for me personally, that I would have been just as disjointed as I was without him, because that would have been another body to try to figure out how to get minutes for.''
