Teams take measures every season to protect the players from illness, but as the Cavs are experiencing, it doesn’t always work. Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters and Tyler Zeller all fell ill last week.
The Cavs have hand sanitizers throughout their facility. They also provide flu shots, and although they can’t force anybody to get one, they are strongly encouraged and readily available at Cleveland Clinic Courts for all players, management and support staff. Most willingly get one, but with so many people spending so much time together, the spread of germs is inevitable.
When players are sick on planes, they often pull hoodies over their head and face and sometimes even wrap their face in a towel to try to avoid spreading germs. A few even leave the players’ cabin on the private jets and move to the back of the plane to instead infect the support staff and team employees.
With so many illnesses circulating among the team, the Cavs plan to use this weekend trip to Toronto to disinfect every part of the facility.
