Jason Lloyd’s On the Ball with NBA

By Jason Lloyd
Beacon Journal sports writer

Maybe Allen Iverson was right. Maybe practice is overrated, at least for established stars on veteran teams.

The Miami Heat have taken Iverson’s “We’re talking about practice” rant to a whole new level. The team has held just one practice since Jan. 29 — and that was the Tuesday after the All-Star break when the players had been away for a week.

But it’s hard to argue with the results. The Heat entered the weekend with the best record in the East and the second-best record in the NBA behind only the San Antonio Spurs. They’ve won 13 consecutive games and haven’t lost since Feb. 1 at the Indiana Pacers.

So when will the Heat practice again? Probably not until they lose again. And right now, that’s difficult to understand.
