Will Mike Brown make it through the season at this current pace? @PLtheKing
Owners who admit in news conferences they made a mistake by firing a coach don’t turn around and fire that coach again during or after his first season back. Mike Brown isn’t going anywhere.
Shouldn’t the Cavs be force-feeding Anthony Bennett to get him comfortable/experience? @PLtheKing
Force-feeding typically ends with someone choking. Bennett hasn’t shown that he’s ready right now, although Mike Brown mentioned Friday he’s been looking for ways to get Bennett more minutes. Those minutes might soon start coming at small forward.
When will we hear from Chris Grant or Dan Gilbert? @YtownSignGuy
Grant typically doesn’t speak publicly with the media until February’s trade deadline. Gilbert doesn’t usually address reporters until the end of the season, although his Twitter account (@cavsdan) is a good outlet for him when he just can’t take it anymore.
In times of crisis, sometimes GMs make themselves available to address the fan base. Grant hasn’t done that since his first season in charge when the franchise was in the midst of a 26-game losing streak.
Been very unimpressed with Mike Brown, do you see him settling on his rotation any time soon? @hiramboyd
Brown previously gave himself a loose deadline of early December before he’d settle on a rotation, but we’re here and it isn’t set yet. His second unit is fairly set, but he’s still shuffling starters in and out. That should change with the return of C.J. Miles from a calf injury, but now Brown is tinkering with the idea of using Bennett at small forward. He has used seven lineups in 16 games. He’ll keep searching until he finds something that fits.
After passing on several chances to trade Varejao, would he still attract anything in a deal at this point? @friedmanmatt
Anderson Varejao has looked old at many points this season, but he’s still a valuable trade chip because only about half of his $9 million salary for next season is guaranteed.
The Cavs have to see if this Andrew Bynum experiment will work, though, before they could entertain the thought of moving Varejao.
Is Waiters on the trade block? Any truth to him being out of favor with Mike Brown and Kyrie? @Boozazzouz
The Cavs aren’t believed to be actively shopping Waiters, but with a team underperforming this badly, almost anyone is up for discussion in a trade. Waiters’ defensive inconsistencies can irritate Brown, as does his sometimes-shaky shot selection. But right now he’s playing with the starters because Irving needs the ball in his hands and Bynum needs his touches. Waiters on the floor with those other two guys prevents that from happening.
Would the Cavs ever consider moving Kyrie? @J_McCurry08
Not right now. He’s the one player who is considered the most untouchable, to the point teams around the league don’t even really call the Cavs to check on him.
The Cavs still control Irving for two more seasons after this one. He can sign a max contract next summer. How he handles those negotiations could determine his long-term future in Cleveland. For now, however, he’s off limits.
