Aurora vs. Sylvania Southview
What: Division I state semifinal game
When and where: 7 p.m. tonight, Sandusky High School
Notebook: Aurora has already pulled off a record-breaking season. The Greenmen have the most wins (16) and shutouts (13) in school history. It’s also the first time in program history Aurora has been in the state semifinal after three consecutive losses in the regional semifinal game in as many years. Aurora and Southview also enter the game with identical records at 16-3-2.
Key to the game: The first team to score. Although that’s a common goal for every game, it might hold some extra truth tonight. Aurora coach Chris Gentille spoke to Southview’s defensive abilities, the strength of the Cougars, and the Greenmen are 15-1 when scoring first and have only come from behind to win once.
Players to watch: Juniors Trever Wendel and Dalton Browsky have found a rhythm at the right time. Wendel scored the only goal in Aurora’s 1-0 win over Lakewood St. Edward in the regional final and the second goal against Jackson in the regional semifinal. Browsky provided the assist to Wendel against St. Edward and scored two goals against Jackson in a 5-2 win.
