Division I girls tennis
Tessa Hill of Jackson, Emily Dunbar of Cloverleaf and Molly Sandberg of Walsh Jesuit each advanced to the state tournament after winning quarterfinal matches at the Division I district tournament on Thursday at Oberlin College.
The district tournament sends six singles players and six doubles teams to the state meet at the courts at Ohio State University next week.
Hill will face Dunbar and Sandberg will play Lauren O’ Malley of Magnificat in semifinal matches on Saturday.
Abby Warburton and Alivia Arnold of North Canton Hoover advanced to the state tournament on Thursday. Warburton and Arnold will play Tess Moran and Caitlin Harvey of Canfield on Saturday in a doubles semifinal. Hoover’s Natalie Bourlas and Nicolette Bourlas also qualified for the state tournament and will play Westlake’s Lindsey Golick and Julia Dunbar in Saturday’s other semifinal match.
Walsh Jesuit’s doubles teams of Paige Carmichael and Caroline Dickinson and Emily Hissong and Gina Costanzo will face off for the right to go to the state tournament. The winner will automatically qualify for the state tournament and will face the winner of the Rocky River/Solon match for fifth place.
The finals and consolation round of the Division I district tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Donald Hunsinger Courts at Oberlin College.

Juniors Tyner Haag, Ben Thompson and Michael Parianos each scored a goal to lead the host Warriors over the Cougars.
Junior goalkeeper Max Pivonka had three saves and sophomore Logan Kaim and junior Brian Lutz each had an assist for the Warriors.
St. Vincent-St. Mary 1, Alliance 0
Brock Wise scored the game-winning goal with less than a second remaining in the match to give the Fighting Irish (5-9-1) the win over the Aviators (10-4).
Copley 2, Stow 0
Sophomore Chris Brennan scored a goal and had an assist for the host Indians (11-4-1) in a nonleague win over the Bulldogs. Junior Franklin Kirui scored a goal for the Indians.
Field 5, Norton 1
Senior Johnny Mathews scored two goals and had an assist for the Falcons (11-3-1, 5-0 PTC-Metro).
