The host Bulldogs (0-1) struck early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but a five-run fifth gave the Hornets (1-0) a lead they would not relinquish.
Highland’s Clay Condon was 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in three runs. Anthony Ondrejcak added two singles and two RBI.
Brandon Papp, Lucas Popovich and Evan Clark all had two hits for Green.
Nordonia 7, Copley 1
Junior Nick Nolan hit a home run and drove in four in the Knights’ (1-1, 1-0) first Suburban League game.
Junior Logan Schickler added two singles and scored a run.
Senior starting pitcher Billy Smith struck out eight batters in his six innings of shutout work.
Tallmadge 17, Revere 10
The host Blue Devils scored 11 runs in the first three innings and senior pitcher Nick Robinson held the Minutemen scoreless through his five innings of work.
Pacing the Blue Devils’ (1-1, 1-0 Suburban) offensive attack were sophomore catcher Matt Noel (three singles, three RBI) and senior Scott Noel (double, triple, three RBI).
Sophomore Eddie Schwertner singled and doubled for the Minutemen (0-3, 0-1).
Coventry 13, Lake Center Christian 7
Vince Woicehovich was 4-for-4 at the plate for the host Comets (1-0).
Woicehovich had three singles, a double, knocked in three runs and scored twice.
GlenOak 8, Northwest 7
Freshman Jillia Cook hit a three-run homer in her first high school game to lead the Golden Eagles (1-0) to an opening-day win.
Senior Marilena Sciddurlo also added a home run, of the solo variety, and sophomore outfielder Dayanna Worley singled once and doubled twice.
Springfield 11, Waterloo 0
Senior starting pitcher Quartni Whited tossed a no-hitter and struck out 10 batters in the host Spartans’ (1-0) first game of the season.
Whited also served as the Spartans main source of offense with a single, triple, four RBI and two runs.
