Stow 63, Cuyahoga Falls 29

The visiting Bulldogs (2-0) played tough press defense to limit their Northeast Ohio Conference opponents and generate points off turnovers on Monday.

Sophomore guard Sam Shaver paced the Bulldogs on both sides of the ball. Leading the team with 16 points, Shaver scored five of her six baskets off steals from the press defense.

“We run the press defense through Sam because of what she can do up front,” said coach Bob Podges. “She was the key tonight.”

Senior guard Abbie Lawson added 11 points for the Bulldogs.

Senior Mary Messner led the Black Tigers (0-4) with 11 points.

North 59, Garfield 47

Senior point guard Keishawna Burts flirted with a triple-double in the visiting Vikings’ (1-2) victory over the Rams (0-4) in a City Series matchup.

Burts led her team in rebounds (10) and steals (12) to go along with her seven points and five assists.

Senior shooting guard Sabria Meadows led the Vikings in scoring with 19 points, and sophomore forward Danae Veal added 12.

East 50, Ellet 49

A strong second-half showing by the visiting Dragons gave them the edge in this City Series nail-biter.

Leading the Dragons (1-3, 1-1 City) in their balanced offensive attack were senior point guard Jaquea Latimer with 13 points and sophomore center London Dancy and freshman forward Nina Minter, who both had 11.

Senior guard Shawn Bailey had a game-high 24 points for the Orangemen (1-3, 1-1).

Firestone 62, Buchtel 37

Senior forward Mishae Roper scored 20 points in the visiting Falcons’ (2-2) victory over the Griffins in a City Series matchup.

Fellow senior Imani Scott contributed 13 points.
