Senior Scott Sabol broke a school record for 3-pointers, and sophomore Josh Williams scored 17 points for the host Magics (14-5) in a nonleague victory over the Orangemen (5-15) on Thursday night.

Sabol made the record-breaking 3-pointer in the first quarter to break the previous school record of 75.

Sabol has 77 3-pointers this season and finished with nine points in the game.

The Magics led 19-15 after the first quarter but blew the game open in the second quarter with a 17-5 run.

Senior Nate Painter scored 16 points, and junior Phil Washington added 13 points for the Magics.

Jake Lambert led the Orangemen with 12 points.

Girls basketball

Chippewa 50,
Northwest 30

Freshman Ashley Richardson scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the visiting Chipps (19-3) over the Indians (6-14) in a nonleague game.

The Chipps led 15-10 after the first quarter and outscored the Indians 15-5 in the second quarter to widen their lead.

Smithville 62, Tuslaw 21

Kylee Frizell scored 20 points, Danielle Besancon and Rachel Gerber each scored 10 points and the visiting Smithies defeated the Mustangs in a nonleague game.

The Smithies jumped out to an early 18-4 lead and led 34-8 at halftime.

Abby Wadian led the Mustangs with six points.

Hockey

North Canton Hoover 6,
Aurora 1

Bradley Harcourt scored three goals and Samuel Hankins scored two for the Vikings in a playoff win over the Greenmen at the Kent State University Ice Arena.

The Vikings scored two goals in each period and shut out the Greenmen until the third period.

Hoover goalkeepers Korey Davis and Matt Zalewski combined for 16 saves.

Hankins and Harcourt each had two assists, and Matt Smith and Dylan Oney each had one assist.
