Senior second basemen Alex Agra played the hero for the host Explorers (23-4, 9-1 Northeast Ohio) in Friday’s Hudson Division I sectional final.
Agra hit a game-tying RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth inning before stealing home with two out for the go-ahead run.
Junior outfielder Joey Cahill hit a solo home run in the sixth to begin the rally.
Parker Henderson led the Bulldogs (15-11, 5-5) with two singles and a run scored.
Lake 1, Ellet 0
Senior Matt Byo drove in junior Mitchell Spotleson for the host Blue Streaks (21-6) with a double in the bottom of the seventh inning of a Canton Division I sectional final.
Senior and Malone recruit Tyler Straley struck out 14 Orangemen (17-8) in the shutout, holding Ellet to three hits while improving to 7-0.
Highland 12, Nordonia 4
With the score tied 4-4 in extra innings of a Hudson Division I sectional final, the visiting Hornets (21-8) scored eight runs in the top of the eighth inning to secure the victory.
Senior Clay Condon had four singles, scored four runs and drove in two runs to lead the Hornets. Junior Grant Loeding added three singles, an RBI and a run.
Seniors Scott Klein and Billy Smith led the Knights (21-8) with three singles each.
Field 9, CVCA 0
The host Falcons scored all nine runs in the first three innings and senior starting pitcher Kerrie Trautman struck out 15 Royals (12-16) in a two-hit shutout in an Akron Division II sectional final.
Sophomore Justine Barnes led the Falcons (20-4) with two doubles, three RBI and two runs.
Medina Division I sectional
Jacob Dunbar of Cloverleaf and Aaron Sandberg of Walsh Jesuit each won their singles semifinal match and will face off for first place today at 9 a.m. at the Medina High School tennis courts.
Matt Miles of Walsh Jesuit and Steven Boslet of Hudson will play for third place.
Two Copley doubles teams, Andrew Ong-Jarad Pennington and Austin Aten-Gavin Aten, will play for the doubles championship.
The doubles teams of Steven Smykal and Michael Hutchings of Highland and Mike Wolowiecki and Dominic Polifrone of Hudson will play for third.
