Mike Urban went 3-for-4 to lead host Stow’s (13-6) 11-hit attack against Massillon (9-11) on Saturday in a non-league game. Pitcher James Taylor benefited from the offensive support and improved to 2-0.
Marlington 3, Youngstown Mooney 1
The Dukes’ four doubles and a combined one-hitter by pitchers Jake Jones and Brock Balderson earned Marlington (9-14) a non-league win at Cene Park in Struthers.
Cuyahoga Falls 10-14, Parma Hts. Valley Forge 0-5
The Black Tigers (11-6) swept a doubleheader from visiting Valley Forge (2-14). Ed Stokich got the complete-game win in the first game, and had three doubles and a single in the second.
Manchester 6-8, Jackson 5-5
A Kate Mash triple, a Courtney Roth sacrifice fly and singles by Rachel Fincham and Kaylee Miller allowed Manchester to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and beat visiting Jackson 6-5.
The Panthers went on to sweep the doubleheader from the Polar Bears, winning the second game 8-5.
Track and field
32nd Optimist Meet
Morgan Estes set an Optimist Meet record, breaking her pole vault height from last year by 9½ inches, and leading Green to a third-place finish at Austintown Fitch High School.
Estes, a senior, broke the 7-year-old stadium record by half an inch.
The Stow girls were second, behind host and winner Fitch. They were led by Ashley Pryce’s win in the 100- meter hurdles and Sam Shaver’s winning time in the 100 meters.
