A fantastic season ended bitterly for the Kidron Central Christian volleyball team in the Division IV state final at Wright State University on Saturday.
The Comets (27-3) lost 25-20, 25-22, 25-18 to Maria Stein Marion Local (26-3) to finish as state runners-up.
Sydney Mast led Central Christian with 15 kills four blocks and five digs.
Melissa Nussbaum finished with 24 assists, seven digs and three service aces. Stacy Coblentz led the Comet with 18 digs.
Claire Heitkamp led Marion Local with 16 kills and Josie Winner added three service aces.
Hannah Arling had 34 assists, Megan Wendel had 17 digs and Hannah Heitbrink had five blocks for Marion Local.
Football
Chagrin Falls 49, Ravenna 21
The defending state champion Tigers (12-0) led 28-0 at the half and 42-0 before the Ravens (7-5) scored in a Division III regional semifinal at Solon High School.
Ravenna added two late touchdowns to cut into the deficit.
Chagrin Falls will play St. Vincent-St. Mary in a regional final next Saturday at a site to be determined.
