Senior Philip Martin led the Firestone boys team to their third consecutive City Series golf championship Thursday at Mud Run Golf Course.
Martin earned the medalist honor for the third year in a row by carding a 2-under-par 66.
“I feel like I have really developed as a player over the past three years,” Martin said. “It feels great to win as a team and as an individual. The biggest area I have gotten better at is my mental game. I think I have taken a big step from where I was three years ago.”
Martin made four birdies and two bogeys Thursday.
“To do it one year is great, but to do it three years in a row comes with a lot of pressure,” Falcons coach Dave Milo said. “Philip is playing very well and improving. He is a golf-a-holic.”
Firestone finished first with a 306, and Ellet was second with 323. Kenmore (390) and North (393) were third and fourth, respectively.
Senior Patrick Schultz (76), freshman Brian Schultz (82) and sophomore Jon Giaquianto (82) also scored for Firestone.
“It feels awesome to win the City Series championship for the third year in a row,” Patrick Schultz said. “It’s different each year because you’re going to have players leaving and players coming in.”
Junior Ben Cockerham led Ellet with a 77. Senior Aaron Beckert (79), sophomore Joel Beswetherick (82) and senior Jesse Porter (85) also scored for the Orangemen.
