Position: North High School boys basketball coach.
Education background: A 1993 Buchtel graduate who attended Ohio State University and then graduated from the University of Akron with a bachelor’s degree in Child Development and a master’s degree in Public Administration. She is two classes from earning a PhD in Public Administration.
Athletic background: An All-City Series selection in basketball. She also competed in volleyball and track and field.
Coaching experience: First year as North boys coach. Carter coached her daughter Shaia Horton as a youth in recreational leagues and in AAU competition, and she was an assistant on the Firestone girls basketball team for one year. Carter formerly worked for the Akron Public Schools as an Intervention Specialist.
Family: Married to Jonathan Carter; three children: Shaia (18), Sydney (14), Joelle (3) and eight months pregnant with a boy. She is scheduled to go into the hospital Jan. 18.
Pregnancy plans with games: Carter plans to coach against Buchtel on Jan. 15 before going into the hospital and then miss games against Kenmore on Jan. 18, Firestone on Jan. 22 and East on Jan. 25. Assistant coach Danyelle Love will serve as coach until Carter returns, which could be against Garfield on Feb. 1 or Ellet on Feb. 5.
