When and where: Saturday at St. John Arena in Columbus.
Format: There will be 24 teams competing with three divisions and eight teams each. Divisions are determined by enrollment figures.
Schedule for each division (times are approximate): Quarterfinals from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., semifinals from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and finals from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be six mats in use during early rounds and three mats in use during the finals.
Area teams participating: Division I — Perry and Brecksville-Broadview Heights. Division II — None. Division III — Northwestern, Tuslaw and Rootstown.
Looking back: Last year’s team state champions are back this season: Lakewood St. Edward in Division I, St. Paris Graham Local in Division II and Delta in Division III.
Division I outlook: Perry is the No. 1 seed and was runner-up in the tournament last year. The Panthers never won a state title in wrestling but have been the runner-up team in the individual tournament in nine of the past 11 years. The Panthers are led by defending state champion Jose Rodriguez (113) and have four other returning place-winners in David Bavery (126), Casey Sparkman (152), Tony Dailey (160) and Isaac Bast (170). Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller is the No. 2 seed and is led by defending state champions Dakota Sizemore (182) and Chalmer Frueauf (220), along with four other wrestlers who placed at state last year: Conner Ziegler (120), Jacoby Ward (132), Quinton Rosser (170) Jerry Thornberry (195). Brecksville-Broadview Heights is the No. 3 seed and features two-time state runner-up Austin Assad (120) along with additional state placers Sonny Lucas (138), Austin Strnad (160) and Josh Murphy (195). St. Edward is the No. 4 seed.
Division II outlook: St. Paris Graham, Uhrichsville Claymont, Lake County Perry and Toledo Central Catholic are the top four seeds.
Division III outlook: Delta and Dayton Christian are the top two seeds. Northwestern, Tuslaw and Rootstown are seeded third through fifth and are poised to make a run.
