Northwest, Mogadore, Brunswick, Firestone, Hoover among honorees
By Tom Gaffney Beacon Journal sportswriter

Eight players and five coaches from local high schools earned the major awards on the Northeast Ohio Inland All-District football team announced Monday by the Associated Press.
Northwest led the way with three honorees in Division III, with the co-offensive player of the year in senior receiver Teddy Robb, the co-defensive player of the year in senior back Tony Stover and the coach of the year in Vic Whiting.
The undefeated Indians won the AP state poll championship in Division III and have advanced to the regional final this Friday against Newark Licking Valley.
Mogadore, champion of the Portage Trail Conference's County Division, and North Canton Hoover, winner of the Federal League, each had two honorees.
For the Wildcats, senior back Cody Destro was co-offensive player of the year and Matt Adorni was coach of the year in Division VI.
Hoover senior receiver Matt Wakulchik was selected co-offensive player of the year and senior lineman James Georgiades was defensive player of
the year in Division I.
Local schools accounted for all the Division I honorees, as senior quarterback Sean Bedevelsky of Brunswick shared offensive player of the year with Wakulchik, and Jason Hall of Nordonia was selected coach of the year. Nordonia, with 20 new starters, won the River Division of the new Northeast Ohio Conference and went 9-1 during the regular season.
In Division II, Tim Flossie of Firestone was selected coach of the year for leading the resurgence of a Falcons program that had a series of bleak seasons in the early 2000s. Firestone won the City Series championship and for the first time in school history qualified for the state playoffs.
Another local coach of the year was Lowell Klinefelter of Canton Central Catholic, who was selected in Division IV after leading the Crusaders to a 9-1 regular-season record.
Two other area players were selected for their work on defense. Senior lineman Matt Schooley of Louisville was co-defensive player of the year in Division II. Shawn Sheridan, a senior back from Northwestern, was defensive player of the year in Division V.
The players of the year, coaches of the year and all-district teams were selected in voting by newspaper reporters and editors from the Akron, Canton, Youngstown and Warren areas.
Only results and statistics from the regular season were considered, but weight was given to teams that reached the state playoffs.
All-Ohio teams will be released by the Associated Press during the week of Nov. 26.
