Alex Aleman of Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy won the 2008 Division II boys district tennis tournament singles competition by beating Poland's Ben Brocker in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 Saturday at Weis Park.

Both competitors, along with Orange's Josh Berggrun and University's Zak Kelm, already had earned the right to advance to the state tournament by placing in the top four. Michael Fredericka became the fifth and final state qualifier by beating CVCA's Chad Thompson in the playback round final.

The Beachwood team of Mark Goldberg and Grant Aronson won the doubles competition over the University tandem of Steven Shin and Seth Udelson (3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2). Canton Central Catholic's Jon Esber and Colin Bernier beat Poland's Ryan Teckchandani and Zubin Teckchandani 6-4, 6-2 to take third place. All four teams advanced to the state tournament.

Central Catholic had a chance to slip its second doubles team, consisting of Seth Laubacher and Eduardo Romany, into the state tournament, but the two were unable to beat Hawken's David Gerson and Charlie Marks in the playback round final. They fell in straight sets 6-4, 6-0.

The state tournament will be Friday and Saturday at Stickney Tennis Center in Columbus.
