Massillon finalist
in ESPN contest
Massillon was named as a finalist in ESPN's ''TitleTown USA'' search in an announcement over the weekend on SportsCenter.
Fans will have the opportunity in late July (date and time to be determined) to support Massillon's selection as a finalist when ESPN visits a pep rally at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium. From July 24 to 27, fans may vote to name Massillon as TitleTown USA at http://www.ESPN.com. The winner will be announced July 28 on SportsCenter.
The Tigers have amassed 780 high school football victories (third all-time in the nation), 22 Ohio poll championships and 20 undefeated seasons. The school has sent 23 players to the National Football League, as well as three NFL coaches.
Girls hoops team

East High School has two openings left for its third annual Akron City Shoot Out girls basketball program.
The event will be July 12 at East High School (the former Central-Hower Building) at 123 S. Forge St. Other teams participating are Garfield, Barberton, Norton, Hathaway Brown and Woodridge.
Cost is $150 per team.
