The Akron Touchdown Club will honor the top fall athletes from Summit and Portage counties in two separate banquets at Guy's Party Centre on Jan. 12.The banquets will begin at 6:30 p.m. with football athletes to be honored in the North Ballroom and soccer, volleyball, golf, cross country and tennis athletes to be honored in the South Ballroom.
Tickets for the event are $25 and can be purchased from Dick Rinella at 330-773-4626.
The players of the year are:
Summit football: John Pettigrew of CVCA; Portage football: Adam Bellamy of Aurora; boys soccer: Matt Mason of CVCA; girls soccer: Juliana Libertin of Archbishop Hoban; Summit volleyball: Chelsea Harvey of Stow; Portage volleyball: Traci Vendergrift of Field; boys golf: Nathan Tarter of Mogadore; girls golf: Kelly Krusoe of Walsh Jesuit; boys cross country: Stuart Edmonds of Tallmadge; girls cross country: Katie Gillespie of CVCA; girls tennis singles: Mariah Mostardi of Ravenna; girls doubles tennis: Nancy Joyce and Courtney Fleissner of Walsh Jesuit.
The coaches of the year are:
