Queen of Diamonds to have Falls pitcher
Cuyahoga Falls pitcher Alesha Jones has been selected to compete in the Queen of Diamonds Showcase North at Kent State University on Jan. 9-10.
It is the largest fast-pitch softball showcase of its kind in the United States, attracting teams from 33 states and two Canadian provinces.
Volleyball all-stars in match at Fairless
Fairless High School will host the 25th Annual District IV Volleyball Coaches Association All-Star match at 7 tonight.
The match will pit all-stars from Divisions I and IV against stars from Divisions II and III.
The Division I and IV team features players from Perry, Wooster, GlenOak, Louisville, Jackson, Kidron Central Christian and Kingsway Christian.
The Division II and III team features players from Northwest, Minerva, Canton South, Fairless, Marlington, Smithville, Orrville, Loudonville, St. Thomas Aquinas and Canton Central Catholic.
Leagues cooperate to hold game nights
The Federal League and Northeastern Buckeye Conference will be cooperating for two nights of basketball on Tuesday and Wednesday in support of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Foundation's Service Week.
Varsity girls games will start at 6 p.m. with the boys games immediately afterward.
Tickets for the event are $5.
The schedule for Tuesday is North Canton at Northwest, Alliance at GlenOak, Minerva at Jackson, Perry at Carrollton and Canton McKinley at Canton South.
The schedule for Wednesday is Marlington at Lake, Louisville at Austintown Fitch and Boardman at West Branch.
Basketball classic at Wooster, Lake
The 11th Annual Hoops 4 Healing basketball classic will be held the weekends of Dec. 5 and Dec. 12 in Wooster and Lake Township, respectively.
Wooster High School will host the girls games on Dec. 5 with Wadsworth, Medina, Wooster, Lake, Orrville and Northwestern participating.
The boys games will be held at Lake High School on Dec. 12 with teams from Poland, Louisville, Walsh Jesuit, GlenOak, Canfield and Lake participating.
Hoops 4 Healing was started as an opportunity to promote liver disease research and organ donation education.
Pre-sale tickets, available at participating schools, are $4 for students, $6 for adults and $8 for reserved seats. All general admission tickets are $7 at the door.
The schedule of games on Dec. 5 is Orrville vs. Northwestern at 3 p.m., Wadsworth vs. Medina at 5:15 p.m. and Wooster vs. Lake at 7 p.m.
The schedule of games on Dec. 12 is Poland vs. Louisville at 5 p.m., Walsh Jesuit vs. GlenOak at 6:45 p.m. and Lake vs. Canfield at 8:30 p.m.
