The Indians on Friday signed five players to minor-league contracts that include an invitation to spring training, bringing the team's total to nine.
Three infielders, Andy Gonzalez, Aaron Herr and Danny Sandoval, right-hander Matt Ginter and catcher Armando Camacaro are the latest to join the Tribe.
Ginter, 30, probably is the best-known player of the group, having made 92 big-league appearances from 2000-2005 with the White Sox, Mets and Tigers. His major-league numbers: a 4-4 record and 5.46 ERA, including 15 starts. Last season, he was 2-6 with a 4.05 ERA in 31 games (eight starts) with Memphis, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cardinals.
Gonzalez, 26, batted .185 in 67 games as a utility player for the White Sox in 2007. He made appearances in all four infield spots and every outfield position. He also played for Triple-A Charlotte.
Herr, also 26, is the son of former National League All-Star Tommy Herr. He played all of last season with Triple-A Louisville in the Reds' farm system, batting .274 with 19 home runs and 83 RBI in 132 games.
Sandoval, 28, spent the entire 2007 season at Triple-A Ottawa in the Phillies' organization. He batted .244 with three homers and 24 RBI in 101 games. In 2005, he won the International League batting title with a .331 average and also appeared in the big leagues with Philadelphia.
Camacaro, 28, played in Cleveland's farm system in 2007, appearing in 28 games at Kinston and six at Akron. He did not start his season until June because of a strained calf.
