Collision not as bad,
or good, as it seemed
CLEVELAND: At the time, it appeared the Indians had saved an important run when Adam Dunn tried to score from first on Javier Valentin's second-inning double.
But relays from David Dellucci in left to Jhonny Peralta at short to Kelly Shoppach at the plate nailed the lumbering Dunn, one of the larger players (6-foot-6) in baseball.
Shoppach managed to avoid direct contact at the plate, receiving only a glancing blow from the onrushing Dunn.
''No hard feelings,'' Shoppach said, smiling. ''I was able to ask him if that's all he had. It was a clean play. I was just joking with him.''
VOTE UPDATE — Grady Sizemore remains the only Tribe position player with a reasonable chance of making the American League All-Star team. Even Sizemore is a long shot. With in-stadium balloting complete, Sizemore ranks 12th among outfielders with 777,807 votes. Manny Ramirez leads with 2,409,388.
Fans can continue to vote online until 11.59 p.m. Wednesday. Players, who select 17 members of the 32-man squad, voted on Saturday.
OTHER STUFF — Sizemore's 19th homer tied Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers for the American League lead. . . . With one hit Sunday, Casey Blake is batting .450 in his past 11 games. . . . Shoppach has hit safely in eight consecutive games (.346). Twelve of his past 18 hits have gone for extra bases.
FARM FACTS — Matt Ginter (6-6, 4.13 ERA) threw six shutout innings, giving up one hit, as Triple-A Buffalo beat Scranton-Wilkes Barre 3-0. Jason Cooper had three hits and one RBI. . . . Josh Tomlin (6-3, 3.47 ERA) threw six scoreless innings, allowing one hit in Kinston's 3-0 win over Frederick in Class A. . . . Ryan Miller lowered his ERA to 1.97 with six scoreless innings (giving up two hits), but Lake County lost 6-4 to Hagerstown in Class A. Jeffrey Hehr had three hits. . . . Lonnie Chisenhall, the Tribe's first pick in the this year's draft, tripled and hit his first home run, as Mahoning Valley defeated Batavia 8-6 in 11 innings. Chisenhall also singled to raise his average to .209.
