CLEVELAND: Former Indians pitcher Tim Belcher is the team's new pitching coach, the first member of manager Manny Acta's staff.
Belcher has spent the past eight years as a special assistant to baseball operations in the Indians organization. He was responsible for evaluating players in Cleveland's system and scouted other teams.
The 48-year-old went 146-140 with a 4.16 ERA in a 14-year career. Belcher pitched for seven major league teams.
Acta is expected to fill out the remainder of coaching staff over the next few days. He was hired as Cleveland's manager on Oct. 25. Former pitching coach Carl Willis was fired along with manager Eric Wedge. Willis spent seven seasons with the Indians.

"Belcher Hired" was the same headline they ran when we hired Mangini, wasn't it?
I like Belcher. He's an Ohio guy and finished better than .500 in his career.
I guess Dick Pole wasn't available.
Funny stuff Pauliechop !! Mangina is a big belcher.
Belcher should be managing the Indians.
@spd3333,
um...definitely not. Why in the world should a guy that's never coached or managed ANYWHERE in his life be managing the Indians?
Yikes. May have been the worst thing I've ever read in my entire life.
As far as Belcher as a pitching coach. I like the move. Has good knowledge of the players and worked with John Farrell some, who we all know is the pitching coach in Boston.
I'm pulling for Radinsky to get the bullpen coach job.
He and Belcher were teammates in 1993 for the Chicago White Sox when they won the West Division. Tim Belcher was acquired mid-season to be a starter for them, and Radinsky was working in the bullpen for those White Sox.
Belcher was a solid starter who led his league in complete games.
Radinsky was a career reliever, who knows a thing or two about bullpen work.
Seems like a great match to me.
I don't know much about him, but hopefully his familiarity with the young pitchers is a plus. Willis could never teach any of the pitchers the art of holding runners on base. Anyone would be an improvement!
