INDIANS NOTEBOOK Sizemore enters late, keeps streak going
MINNEAPOLIS: As usual, when Grady Sizemore got a day off, he played anyway, keeping his consecutive-game streak alive at 333.
This time, Sizemore entered the game as a pinch runner in the sixth and stayed in to play center field. In his only at-bat, he doubled in the seventh.
Did Sizemore gripe about being out of the lineup?
''I just told him,'' manager Eric Wedge said. ''I didn't leave it open for debate.''
TOO SOON TO TELL In his first major-league appearance as a reliever, Cliff Lee gave up one run, two hits and a walk in one inning Sunday, giving little indication that his stay in Buffalo was productive.
''I have to give him a mulligan, because it was his first time in the bullpen,'' Wedge said. ''It wasn't a clean inning, but he got through it. We'll see how he does the next time.''
Lee's role in the bullpen is largely undefined, though one of his duties will be as a long reliever.
''Cliff probably will be the long guy,'' Wedge said. ''But we have enough guys out there for us to be able to put it (a lengthy relief stint) together. The reality is a long reliever usually works no more than three innings, maybe four.''
DELLUCCI ARRIVING David Dellucci (hamstring surgery) won't be activated when he gets to Minneapolis, but he will join the team today.
He'll run the bases and hit, then we'll make an assessment,'' Wedge said. ''Initially, we'll use him (only) as a pinch hitter, but I don't know when we'll activate him.''
MORE HELP At least three more players will be summoned today from Buffalo, probably outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, third baseman Andy Marte and reliever Edward Mujica.
Mujica probably would have been called up over the weekend, but when he was optioned to Triple-A on Aug. 25, he was not permitted to return to the big leagues for 10 days, or until the Bisons' season concluded.
Buffalo manager Torey Lovullo and Akron skipper Tim Bogar also will join the Indians for the rest of the season, though Bogar first will finish the Aeros' playoff run.
FARM FACTS Jeff Harris (6-9, 4.68 ERA) gave up two runs in 51/3 innings, but Buffalo lost 3-0 to Rochester and was eliminated from the International League wild-card race. . . . Nick Weglarz hit his first home run with Kinston (24th, including Lake County) in a 3-2 win over Myrtle Beach. . . . Jeanmar Gomez worked six shutout innings, allowing four hits, but Lake County was blanked 1-0 by Delmarva. . . . Michael Eisenberg (4-6, 4.00 ERA) gave up three runs and six hits in six innings as Mahoning Valley beat State College 6-4.
