Borowski near mark for saves by Indian
Joe Borowski not only leads the American League in saves with 42, but he's only four short of the Indians' record, set by Jose Mesa in 1995.
Borowski said he never thought about being able to lead the league in saves.
''That just goes back to this team never giving up,'' he said. ''How many times have we been behind, and then in the seventh or eighth inning, we get the lead?''
Borowski has an 87.5 percent success rate, having blown only six saves.
SEARCHING FOR CASH The Indians have hired IMG, the global sports, entertainment and representation firm based in Cleveland, to help find a corporation that wants to put its name on Jacobs Field.
The club has been seeking a company to buy naming rights for at least a year. Several local companies were given demonstrations, but none wanted to pay what the team believes the rights are worth.
IMG will expand the search outside the Northeast Ohio area. Dick Jacobs, the Tribe's former owner, bought the naming rights for 13 years, through 2006.
THE CUTTING ROOM Reliever Edward Mujica is done for the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to remove torn cartilage from his left knee Wednesday at Lutheran Hospital.
He suffered the injury last week in pregame drills and is expected to recover in four to six weeks, which means he should be fine when spring training begins.
OTHER STUFF The Indians have swept 11 series this season two against the Tigers. This week's was the first sweep of Detroit in Cleveland since April 2001. . . . The Tribe is 20-5 since Aug. 25. . . .
