CLEVELAND: Carlos Carrasco’s start against the Detroit Tigers last week was disappointing, but manager Terry Francona doesn’t think he needs to do too much to get back on track.
“He said he needs to pitch like he did in Triple-A,” Francona said. “I think what he means is that he should be pitching inside. And not give the hitters so much respect. That’s what he told us, too.”
During Carrasco’s stay in Columbus, he posted a 3.21 ERA in 47⅔ innings, pitching in nine starts and one relief outing.
Carrasco is currently serving a seven-day suspension and will return to the rotation Tuesday night against the Kansas City Royals.
TV NOTE — Tonight’s game between the Indians and Washington Nationals will not be aired by SportsTime Ohio. Instead, it is being broadcast nationally by Fox Sports.
LATE NIGHT — Because of heavy thunderstorms in Cleveland late Wednesday night, the Tribe’s charter flight from Dallas was not allowed to take off for well over an hour. Consequently, the team didn’t land at Hopkins International until about 4:30 Thursday morning.
ON THE DOTTED LINE — Two more draftees agreed to terms, bringing the total to eight.
The latest are right-hander Casey Shane, 17, a sixth-round pick from Centennial (Texas) High School and 19th-round choice Matthew Whitehouse, 22, from the University of California Irvine.
Shane compiled a 5-2 record and 1,60 ERA, struck out 77 in 39⅓ innings and held opposing batters to a .143 average.
FARM FACTS — Shawn Morimando (4-6, 2.73 ERA) gave up three unearned runs and five hits in five innings, as Carolina lost to Myrtle Beach 3-1 in Class A.
