OAKLAND, CALIF: Indians manager Terry Francona hasn’t seen Vinnie Pestano pitch since he was banished to Triple-A Columbus on July 30, but he has received reports.

“For the most part, he’s doing pretty well,” Francona said. “But a few days ago, he gave up three runs. He’s doing everything he can to get back to being Vinnie Pestano. He’s had a couple outings where we’ve been encouraged, and a couple that haven’t been as good.”

Statistically, Pestano has compiled a 3.52 ERA in seven appearances, throwing 7⅔ innings and allowing six hits and two walks, and striking out seven.

TRIVIAL PURSUIT — Where do players go after the Indians no longer want them? The New York Yankees, of course.

Mark Reynolds is the most recent example. After waiting three months for his slump to end, the Tribe designated him for assignment, and after he cleared waivers the Bronx Bombers swooped in and signed him last week. In Reynolds’ first game with the Yankees, he homered.

Since July 2012, Reynolds is one of nine former Indians to be claimed on waivers, sign or be traded to the Yankees. Russ Canzler, David Huff, Thomas Neal, Travis Hafner, Brent Lillibridge, Ben Francisco, Kosuke Fukudome and Derek Lowe are the others.

SCRATCHED — A’s pitcher Bartolo Colon will go on the disabled list with a groin injury and miss today’s start against the Tribe, his former team.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? — Allie LaForce, former sports reporter at WJW-TV, will begin a show titled Game Changers for CBS-TV spotlighting sports figures and their off-field human interest moments. Premier of the show probably will be September.

LaForce will continue as co-host with Doug Gottlieb of the CBS Sports Network show Lead Off. A native of Vermilion, LaForce is the fiancee of Tribe setup man Joe Smith.

FARM FACTS — T.J. House gave up one earned run (two total) and four hits, walking one in six innings, as Columbus beat Indianapolis 5-2. Omir Santos tripled, doubled and drove in three runs. … Joe Colon gave up one run and four hits in seven innings in Carolina’s 3-1 loss to Myrtle Beach in Class A. … Dylan Baker threw six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, and struck out seven in Lake County’s 4-3 defeat to South Bend in Class A. … Clint Frazier doubled three times, as the Arizona League Indians lost to the Giants 7-3.
