CHARLESTON, S.C.: Kris Brewer scored 10 of his team’s final 14 points and Mark Henniger sank two free throws in the final 4 seconds as Kent State battled past College of Charleston 58-54 Saturday.
Brewer led the Golden Flashes (9-2) with 20 points. Henniger’s free throws were his only two of the game, but he’s hit 37 in a row, two off the school record.
The game was Kent State’s first in 17 days and got off to a cold start as neither team scored until Melvin Tabb hit a jump shot for the Golden Flashes at 17:57. The score was 17-16 at halftime.
Willis Hall powered the Cougars (5-7) with 14 points and nine rebounds. Anthony Thomas added 13 points and eight boards. The Cougars shot just 40 percent from the field, 55 percent from the line and committed 21 turnovers but led or tied three times in the last 3:10.
