Notebook: Mid-American Conference play begins tonight at home for the Flashes, who are coming off a convincing 72-55 victory over Cleveland State on Jan. 2 in their final pre-conference tuneup. … The Rockets are coming off a 58-53 loss to Chicago State on Dec. 31 that snapped a three-game winning streak. … Toledo features the league’s top scorer, 6-foot-4 junior guard Rian Pearson (19.2 points per game), who has already been named the MAC’s Player of the Week twice and surpassed 1,000 points in his career against Chicago State. … Rockets sophomore guard Julius Brown is ninth in the league in scoring (13.5 ppg). … Kent State, which is riding a four-game winning streak, ranks third in the MAC in scoring (71.4 ppg) and fourth in field-goal percentage (43.4) and 3-point percentage (35.2). … Flashes senior guard Chris Evans is second in the MAC in scoring with 16.5 ppg and also is among the leaders in rebounds (7.6, third), steals (1.9, fourth) and field-goal percentage (49.7, ninth). … Toledo leads the all-time series 78-45.
