Seven men and five women from the University of Akron were honored in the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association’s All-Academic Individual Awards.
Men earning honors: Bryan Dowdell, Jake Hiltner, Bjorn Johansson, Bryan Jones, Bryce Lemon, Alex McCune and Tyshaun Peoples.
Women earning honors: Ariane Beaumont-Courteau, Jessica Delic, Claire Lucas, Gabriela Szkolnicka, Alexandra Wood.
The seven men’s honorees set a program high.
University of Akron senior forward Demetrius Treadwell and sophomore guard Reggie McAdams will represent the Global Sports Academy this week in a Goodwill Tour.
They will play in two games in Germany before playing three more in the Czech Republic.
Kent State University coach Jeff Duncan announced that Brandon Larson will join the staff as a volunteer assistant for the upcoming season.
In 1997, Larson led LSU to the College World Series, where he was named Most Valuable Player.
He was drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds in 1997 and played in the major leagues from 2001-2005.
• Entering its first season under coach Vince Kehres, Mount Union was picked in the preseason media and coaches’ polls to win the Ohio Athletic Conference, receiving 31 of 36 first-place votes.
The Purple Raiders enter the season with a 73-game regular-season winning streak.
• Walsh University wide receiver Anthony Schrock and defensive linemen Andrew Roy were selected to the Preseason All-Ohio DII first-team by OhioFootball.com.
Schrock led the Cavaliers with 34 catches for 631 and three touchdowns last season.
Roy led the Cavaliers with six sacks.
